Spain replaces warning triangle with light solution: What drivers need to know now and what advantages warning lights offer ws title

Premstätten, Austria and Munich, Germany (25 March 2025) - The LEDguardian ROAD FLARE Signal V16 IoT from ams OSRAM is a DGT 3.0 certified warning light. It is more visible than a warning triangle and can even warn other road users automatically thanks to digital networking by connecting to the DGT 3.0 platform. In Spain, such V-16 warning lights will be mandatory from 2026. In Germany, such solutions can also be used in the event of an accident or breakdown - but only in addition to the classic warning triangle.

After the end of the warning triangle from 2026 in favor of a modern lighting solution in Spain, drivers, associations, manufacturers of lighting solutions and responsible ministries are looking eagerly towards the Iberian Peninsula. Whether and when Germany or other countries in Europe will follow suit is questionable - despite the clear advantages: Drivers no longer have to get out of their vehicles, which can quickly become life-threatening in poor visibility and at high speeds on highways, and the flashing light warns road users from a great distance.

“Corresponding warning lights offer an indisputable added value compared to the warning triangle, which is why we are convinced that the example from Spain will also set a precedent in other countries,” says Carlos Garrido, Key Account Manager AM Aftermarket Iberia. “Until then, we therefore recommend that German drivers always use such a flashing light in addition to the warning triangle in the event of breakdowns and accidents.”

In Spain, it will be mandatory to carry the light and use it on highways and expressways from January 1, 2026. Holidaymakers traveling in their own car may continue to use a warning triangle. In rental cars, however, such a light must then also be present.

The advantages of the new LEDguardian ROAD FLARE Signal V16 IoT
The LEDguardian ROAD FLARE Signal V16 IoT is a DGT 3.0 certified warning light. The 360° flashing orange light is an important safety factor, especially at night, but is also visible from a great distance during the day. With ten long-lasting high-performance LEDs, drivers can draw attention to themselves and the broken-down vehicle and alert other road users to the hazardous situation. The light is waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and windproof and can be easily attached to the vehicle thanks to its magnetic base. For use in Spain, a SIM card is integrated that connects the warning light to the Spanish DGT 3.0, a government platform that transmits important information about a potentially dangerous situation on the road to other drivers' navigation devices and nearby changeable message signs in real time.

The LEDguardian® ROAD FLARE Signal V16 IoT is available in stores.
