Advanced production safety solutions 

Traditional production environments use mechanical protection devices like safety fences to prevent accidents. In more flexible environments, safety is ensured by 2D/3D LiDAR scanners or 1D/2D LED light curtains, which consist of separate emitter and receiver units with photodetectors. Industry 4.0 has driven the shift towards more open and flexible production setups, where ams OSRAM's LEDs, lasers, and photodiodes are widely used due to their quality and reliability. 

To simplify scanning, the trend is towards advanced 3D scanning, combining presence detection within a single sensor. This reduces complexity and opens new possibilities for motion prediction. ams OSRAM offers vision-based sensing products for 3D sensing, including high quantum efficiency near-infrared global shutter imagers, pattern projectors, and multi-zone time-of-flight sensors. 

Functional safety extends beyond localization and presence detection. Hazardous machines often require hands-off/on detection. ams OSRAM's multi-channel capacitive sensing controllers and smart proximity sensors form the basis of comprehensive safety monitoring systems, ensuring machines operate only when safe. Safe states can be indicated using multi-color LEDs or by projecting patterns onto the floor or walls around equipment.
